CUPP Computing has received many inquires about our products, and appreciates your continued interest.  The months following Computex have been both promising and difficult here at CUPP.

The Bad news first: Like many, in these tough economic times money has been difficult to come by. The PunkThis project has been delayed due to a missed round of funding last spring.

However, the good news is we survived this challenge, and CUPP has managed to advance the development and is now lining up a new round of financing.  Presently, we have one investor that has pledged 50% of the required investment and we are in discussions with several others to close the gap. We hope to have the PunkThis Module back on track in the next weeks.

More good news: CUPP has acquired Yoggie Security Systems.  This will allow CUPP to provide an Enterprise Level Security, a Unified Threat Management solution (UTM).

Our security solution completely offloads security from the PC, freeing up resources, and creating a more responsive user experience.  In the coming months we will integrate the Security Suite on to the PunkThis module creating an easy to intergrate security hardware appliance for your notebook or OEM application.

CUPP Computing plans to re-launch the YOGGIE development center and expand its technical scope. The founder of YOGGIE security systems Shlomo Touboul is expected to remain with the CUPP Development Center for the startup period and hopefully well beyond.

The Yoggie Pico is a ARM-based computer with its processor, memory and hardened operating system dedicated for Computer Security, all in the form factor of a memory stick.

CUPP Computing has developed a 2.5” module for x-86 PCs.  Codenamed “PunkThis” for PC, it is based on CUPP’s patented technology and “Multi-mode computing” vision.  The device enables a user to combine a high performance PC processor (x86/IA) and a low power processor (RISC/ARM) into a single platform.  This allows the user to choose between low power/extended battery life and high performance/ normal battery life, enhancing their PCs functionality.

The PunkThis was conceived as a spin-off from CUPP’s internal development platform to a product for tech savvy users. The PunkThis module is designed to engage people and make them understand CUPP’s technology, but at the same time we aim to make the PunkThis module as consumer friendly as we can. This we have done by developing solder-less kits for Specific Notebooks. (Presently we are targeting the Asus 1015pn with a 12” – 13” notebook to follow.)

The PunkThis module contains both and Mini PCIe SSD HD and an ARM processor.  The ARM Processor is a TI OMAP DM3730 at 1GHz with 512MB of RAM.  Two USB connections (Host & USB OTG) allow uses flexibility to access and share data.

Along with the PunkThis module CUPP will also release a desktop enclosure.   This provides users and developers a compact desktop Computer that can be used in a number of roles.  As a stand-alone computer it can be used as media center, terminal, or connected device.  When used in conjunction with a desktop PunkThis provides an ideal instant on, low power system to check mail and surf the web.  Developers gain the ability to target the ARM v7 code base on physical hardware while retaining the functionality of a desktop environment.  PunkThis enables more practical computing with greater battery life and a more versatile set of use cases.  It allows low power applications and flexibility, with seamless access to PC processing power as needed.  This module will provide over 20 hour computing in a standard netbook or 40 hours with a low power screen. PunkThis is an open unlocked device allowing users and developers to use their imagination to find new use cases and functions for this board.   This gives manufacturers and consumers the ability to easily adapt existing PC’s for greater power efficiency and flexibility.  Delivering functionality previously impossible in a Personal Computer.

Hybrid PC = Green Computing

CUPP Computing has finished development of a demo for an innovative Hybrid PC.  This combines an high performance PC processor (x86/IA) and an low power processor (RISC/ARM) into a single platform.  Allowing the user to choose low power/long battery life or high performance.  This gives manufacturers the ability to deliver functionality previously impractical in a Personal Computer, and users the flexibility to use the PC in ways that best suits their needs. If implemented on a wide scale, this technology would have a significant impact on global power consumption.

CUPP Computing patented the integration of low power processors into the South Bridge/IOH of PC Chipsets. (link).  This allows the seamless integration of Hybrid environments.  It hoped that this technology leads to a new class of devices we call Computicator™.  It is the full convergence of computing and communication.

This demo has full accessibility to all peripheries from both user modes, and most ports are shared.  The TI OMAP is running Ubuntu LXDE, Midori Web Browser and Gimp.  The PC is running Windows 7 Pro and Internet Explorer. We expect to bring a product to the market Q2’11

This is the first unit of our small run of demo devices. It is based on a 16″ Notebook with a few modifications. Production of demos will be complete at the end of Sept’10. The CUPP Hybrid PC uses a TI OMAP 3430 and an Intel Cantiga Chipset, with full accessibility to all peripheries.

Functional Overview: This is a quick overview of the functionality of the CUPP Hybrid PC.

Always On Devices are the Future

Always Connected devices are systems such as cell phones. In time these devices are becoming “aware” of their environment.  They start to understand where they are, what you want them to do, how much power they are using, and other devices around them.

Always On and Aware Devices exist today

• A simple example of such a behavior is  ”bumping” two iPhones/Android together to exchange information.
• Event monitors that wait for ”events” and turns the computer on/off thus saving power.  These might include chats/downloads/email.
• The some WebOS from Palm is Aware of its environment and your plans.
